A founder-led alliance for African education

Africa’s EdTech.
Stronger together.

Fragmented markets. Limited access to funding. Different rules, languages and learning needs. Building an education business in Africa takes more than a great product.

We’re bringing founders and operators together to tackle those barriers—through shared knowledge, cross-border partnerships and a stronger collective voice.

Our story

A shared programme.
A lasting alliance.

The African EdTech Alliance grew out of the relationships and shared experience built through Talent 4 Startups, an initiative developed and funded by Digital Africa.

Talent 4 Startups brings training organisations together to equip African talent with digital skills and connect them with opportunities in startups.

Working together revealed a bigger opportunity: to keep sharing practical knowledge, build partnerships across borders and strengthen Africa’s EdTech ecosystem beyond a single programme.

With the support of Digital Africa, the Alliance is carrying that momentum forward as an independent, founder-led network.

01 / Why the alliance exists

Local innovation.
Shared barriers.

Africa is not one education market. Promising companies can remain disconnected across countries, languages and networks, tackling similar problems separately. Our purpose is to connect that work without losing the local knowledge that makes it effective.

01 / Fragmentation

Connect the ecosystem.

Knowledge, relationships and opportunities too often stop at the edge of a company or country. Founders end up rebuilding networks and repeating work already done elsewhere.

Our priorityShare market intelligence and practical lessons, and help operators find trusted partners across borders.

02 / Funding

Make growth fundable.

Access to patient capital is limited. A successful pilot is not a sustainable business: adoption, procurement and measurable learning results take time and continued investment.

Our priorityConnect founders with relevant funders, develop joint funding proposals and make the case for financing that supports long-term delivery.

03 / Complexity

Work with local realities.

Cross-border growth is not a copy-and-paste exercise. Curricula, languages, regulation and purchasing processes differ; connectivity and device affordability also shape who can learn.

Our priorityPool experience on localisation, delivery and institutional partnerships, so each team does not have to start from zero.

04 / Trust & evidence

Show what actually works.

Reaching learners is only the start. Schools, employers and funders need credible evidence of learning and skills—not just enrolment numbers or a compelling demo.

Our priorityDevelop shared approaches to quality, impact measurement and responsible AI, and bring operators’ experience into policy and funding discussions.

The ambition

Independent companies.
Shared challenges.
A collective voice.

We aim to bring African EdTech operators into stronger dialogue with governments, institutions and funders—so decisions reflect the realities of delivering quality education on the continent.

02 / Our members

Built with operators.
Not around them.

Our members are founders and education leaders building learning and skills organisations across Africa. The alliance connects their experience and expertise around shared challenges.

Where our members are based

Many countries.
One shared ambition.

Different markets, languages and local perspectives. Our members connect company bases across Africa, working together for better education.

03 / Help set the agenda

What could we solve
better together?

If you build or lead an EdTech or skills organisation in Africa, bring the challenges you cannot solve alone. If you fund, commission or support education, help us turn that experience into better partnerships.
